Tencel™

About Tencel ™

TENCEL ™ Lyocell is a light and versatile fabric for eco-conscious brands.
The characteristics of TENCEL ™ branded cellulosic fiber are long-lasting softness, good color retention, and breathability.
What TENCEL ™ is
TENCEL ™ is a brand of recycled fiber (lyocell) manufactured by Lenzing AG, Austria.

How TENCEL™ is made

TENCEL ™ Lyocell is a cellulose fiber derived from sustainably sourced eucalyptus wood pulp.
First, the wood chips are turned into a wet mixture by blending with a solvent.
Then, to form threads, the mixture is pushed through small holes, treated with chemicals,
dried with a process called spinning, and spun into yarns.

Sustainability of TENCEL™

TENCEL ™ Lyocell uses PEFC and FSC certified and controlled wood sources.

Since lyocell derives from natural raw materials,
it can be biodegraded and returned to the natural environment (if not mixed with synthetic fibers).

The Lenzing AG uses a closed-loop production process that reuses more than 99% of the water
and solvent utilized in the production process. Traditional viscose production uses toxic chemicals
that are not necessary for the TENCEL™ solutions. The solvent used for the NMMO process is
fully ecological and environmentally friendly.

TENCEL™ also requires less energy during the production process
and requires only 1/100 water of what conventional cotton does.
